Pat Grimes


Pat Grimes attended Cohn High School in Nashville and graduated from MTSU with a B.S. in biology in 1967. He began his teaching career at Richland High School in Nashville before moving to Overton County to pursue his Master's Degree in Science Education at Tennessee Tech.

In 1969 he began teaching at Hilham Elementary and would go on to be principal of Hilham before moving to Livingston Academy. In 1974 he earned the Conservation Educator of the Year award from the TN Conservation League.


He began teaching at Livingston Academy in 1976. While there, he taught Ecology and Comparative Anatomy and later Advanced Biology. In 1996 he received the Outstanding Science Educator Award from Tennessee Tech. He worked with the Gifted and Talented program, the Girl’s Program and taught off-campus classes for Tennessee Tech. In 1999 he received the Apple for the Teacher Award from Channel 4 News. He is widely considered by his students to be the greatest teacher they ever had.

After retiring from LA, he continued teaching on extended contract for several years. His wife, Elaine, and their two daughters are also teachers.
